One of Wales’ foremost musicians, Colin Jones’ musical ability was evident at an early age. At the age of fourteen he won the open pianoforte solo at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod. At seventeen, he became accompanist of the Rhosllanerchrugog Male Voice Choir, and at twenty one he was appointed Musical Director. His work with the Rhos. Male Voice Choir enhanced the quality of this choir for over thirty years.

Professionally, as one of the most distinguished graduates of the Royal Manchester College of Music, he was appointed Senior Lecturer in the School of Vocal Studies by the college from 1964 to 1976. He later became Principal Lecturer and Head of Music at the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education.

For many years he was principal accompanist at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod, and many eminent soloists including, Sir Geraint Evans, Stuart Burrows, Elizabeth Vaughan, Kenneth Collins, and Bryn Terfyl, have requested his services.

As conductor and guest conductor, Colin Jones has been invited to many of the world’s prestigious venues to conduct individual choirs, massed choirs and Gymanfa Ganu including, the Royal Albert Hall London, the London Palladium, the Opera House, Chicago, St.David’s Hall Cardiff, and the Liederhalle Stuttgart. He has appeared on a number of world wide television shows, these appearances include the Ed Sullivan Show shown coast to coast in the U.S.A and the Garrison Keillor Show. In 1992 Colin Jones was guest conductor of the Llanelli Male Choir on their tour of Australia. In March 1996, he returned to Melbourne, Australia, to conduct the combined Melbourne Welsh and Victoria Welsh Male Choirs at their St. David’s Festival.

His work with Cantorion Colin Jones has resulted in the Choir achieving almost legendary status in Wales with a following which is the envy of professional musicians alike. Invitations to tour with the Choir and/or as guest conductor/accompanist are many and varied, such is his respect in the music world.

Currently, as a music consultant and freelance conductor, Colin Jones is frequently invited to perform in Europe, U.S.A. Africa and Israel. International critics have commended him upon his rare talent and comprehensive musicianship.
